The comparison table gives you the headline differences, but the right EcoFlow depends on how much power you need, how portable you want it to be and whether solar charging is important to you. Below, I take a closer look at each of the four models and explain where each one makes the most sense.
EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus – Best Overall
The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Plus is my pick as the best all-round model in the current EcoFlow range. It has enough capacity and output to be genuinely useful for home backup, while still being light enough to move between the house, shed, campervan or garden when needed.
That balance is what makes it stand out. It gives you much more flexibility than the RIVER 3 Plus without becoming as large, heavy or expensive as the DELTA 3 Max Plus.
Why I prefer it to the DELTA 3 Classic
The biggest reason for me is solar charging. The DELTA 3 Plus has two 500W solar inputs, allowing up to 1,000W combined, compared with 500W on the Classic.
That won’t matter much if you simply keep the unit charged from the mains for occasional emergency backup. But if you plan to use solar regularly, or want a more resilient off-grid setup, the Plus gives you much more flexibility.
Useful power without becoming too bulky
Its 1,800W continuous AC output is enough for a wide range of household appliances, tools and electronics. EcoFlow also quotes a 3,600W surge rating and X-Boost support for suitable devices up to 2,400W, although I’d still use the 1,800W continuous figure as the main guide when judging normal appliance compatibility.
At around 12.5kg, it is still manageable to move around when needed. That matters because once a power station gets much heavier, “portable” starts to become a fairly loose description.
Fast charging
Mains charging is also very quick, so it can be topped up rapidly whenever grid power is available. Combined with the stronger solar input, that makes the Plus a better fit than the Classic for anyone who expects to recharge it regularly rather than simply leave it stored for emergencies.
Who is the DELTA 3 Plus best for?
I think it makes the most sense for someone who wants one power station to cover several jobs: home backup, solar charging, sheds, garden offices, campervans and general off-grid use.

Where the Classic makes sense
For normal household use, the Classic is closer to the Plus than the price difference might suggest. The continuous output is still 1,800W, which is enough for a wide range of appliances, electronics and tools.

At around 4.7kg, it is genuinely easy to move around. That is a big advantage if you expect to carry it regularly rather than leave it in one place.

The RIVER 3 Plus is designed for lighter loads rather than whole-home backup, but its 600W continuous AC output is still enough for laptops, routers, lighting, TVs, chargers and many other everyday devices.
For me, the main appeal is that it gives you useful mains-style power without the weight penalty of the larger DELTA range.
Well suited to portable solar
Solar input is lower than on the DELTA models, but that is not necessarily a disadvantage here. The RIVER 3 Plus supports up to 220W of solar input, which is well matched to its smaller battery and makes it practical to pair with a compact portable panel.
That is a good fit for camping or campervan use, where portability often matters more than maximum charging speed.
Where the RIVER 3 Plus reaches its limits
The main limitation is battery capacity. It is not the model I would choose for keeping several household appliances running through a long outage or for regularly powering high-draw equipment.
If your priority starts to shift from portability towards longer runtime, I think it is worth comparing the price with the DELTA 3 Classic rather than simply buying a larger RIVER configuration.

The EcoFlow DELTA 3 Max Plus is the model I would choose if home backup is the main priority. It offers far more stored energy and substantially higher output than the smaller DELTA 3 models, making it better suited to longer outages and more demanding household use.
This is the point in the range where EcoFlow starts to feel less like a portable power station for occasional use and more like a serious backup system that can support several appliances at once.
Much more capacity for longer outages
The biggest advantage is simple: you get a much larger battery. That gives you far more breathing room if you want to keep essentials such as fridges, freezers, broadband equipment, lighting and TVs running for longer.
Actual runtime will still depend on what you connect and how much power those devices draw, but this is the model I would look at if a 1kWh unit feels too limiting.
More headroom for heavier appliances
The DELTA 3 Max Plus also gives you much more inverter capacity, so it is better suited to higher-powered appliances and situations where several devices may be running at the same time.
